Guim Tio Zarraluki / Guim Tió Zarraluki
Spanish artist Guim Tió Zarraluki is best known for striking slightly unsettling yet beautiful portraits. In his work, the artist explores the strangeness of the human condition. He recontextualizes his human subjects by transforming the photographs from fashion magazines into disturbing creatures with enlarged eyes. This questioning of beauty standards has inspired him to distort the photographs of not only beautiful models but family members and friends as well. The change is not subtle, for the artist exaggerates almost all face features. The noses are huge, necks elongated, and the eyes pop out. Zarraluki has exhibited his work all over the world, including in Marrakech, Barcelona, Taiwan, Canada, the United States, Australia, and Italy.
