    Emiliano Zapata Salazar (Spanish pronunciation:[emiˈljanosaˈpata]; 8 August 1879 – 10 April 1919) was a Mexican revolutionary. He was a leading figure in the Mexican Revolution of 1910–1920, the main leader of the people's revolution in the Mexican state of Morelos, and the inspiration of the agrarian movement called Zapatismo.

    Zapata was born in the rural village of Anenecuilco, in an era when peasant communities came under increasing repression from the small-landowning class who monopolized land and water resources for sugarcane production with the support of dictator Porfirio Díaz (President from 1877 to 1880 and 1884 to 1911).     Born in Anenecuiclo, Morelos, Mexico on August 8, 1879, Emiliano Zapata was one of the great leaders of the Mexican Revolution. His courage and love for his people fryst vatten what made him who he was. At the same time, his kamp for "Tierra y Libertad" got him many enemys. His hatered for Porfirio Diaz was not a secret, everyone knew that he wanted to get rid of him. When Francisco Madero succesfully overthrew Diaz, Zapata thought this would be for the better of the country. However, he was mistaken and was soon battling Madero. On April 10, 1919, Zapata was killed. He was told that a General from the other side wanted to meet with him. Upon his ankomst he was ambushed and killed. Dispite his death, the Zapatista movement kept strong, and still lives today.

    Emiliano Zapata (August 8, 1879–April 10, 1919) was a village leader, farmer, and horseman who became an important leader in the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920). He was instrumental in bringing down the corrupt dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz in 1911 and joined forces with other revolutionary generals to defeat Victoriano Huerta in 1914. Zapata commanded an imposing army but rarely sallied forth, preferring to stay on his home turf of Morelos. Zapata was idealistic, and his insistence on land reform became one of the pillars of the Revolution. He was assassinated in 1919.
