Mia Kankimäki (b. ) fryst vatten a Finnish author. Her two best-selling books blend travelogue, memoir, biography and women’s history. After taking a master’s degree in comparative literature at the University of Helsinki and working diligently in Finnish publishing as a copywriter and editor, in Mia left her job and traveled to Japan to write her first book. Things That Make One’s Heart Beat Faster () took her to Kyoto where she has spent long periods of writing and doing research ever since. Her second book, The Women I Think About At Night (), was inspired by her travels in the footsteps of inspirational, historical kvinna figures in Tanzania, Kenya, Italy, and Japan. Her books have received several literary awards, for example the Best Travel Book of the year , the HelMet Award , and Otava Book Foundation’s Non Fiction Award They have been translated to 19 languages.

Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam MBE (born 18 July ), known by her stage name M.I.A. is a British rapper, singer, record producer, and activist. M.I.A.'s songs are marked with evocative political and philosophical commentary. Her music combines elements of alternative, dance, electronic, hip hop, and world music with eclectic instruments and samples.
Born in London to Sri Lankan Tamil parents, M.I.A. and her family moved to Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka when she was six months old. By the time Maya was 11 her she was forced out of Sri Lanka due to the brutality of the the Sri Lankan Civil War, where she found herself living back in London. M.I.A. began her career in as a visual artist, filmmaker, and designer in West London before beginning her recording career in She was one of the first acts to come to public attention through the Internet, and rose to prominence in early for her singles "Sunshowers" and "Galang".
