It was a gorgeous, sunny with a little chill in the air Saturday morning in Fairfax, Virginia. With a cup of coffee in one hand, I was trying to contain my excitement as we pulled out of the hotel parking en route to Kena Shriners venue for the International Migrant Heritage Festival.
This was our first time to attend the festival, thanks to the invitation of Atty. Arnedo Nedo Valera, Founder and Executive Director of Migrant Heritage Commission (MHC) MHC is the main organizer of the festival. Migrant Heritage Commission is a non-profit organization that advocates for the rights of migrants and addresses its growing needs. Among MHCs top projects are its legal resource program, health care resource programs, funeral assistance to migrants who cannot afford one, migrants rights awareness programs and various migrants networking programs. You can find out more about MHC here:
Once inside the venue, we were greeted and escorted to our table by Grace Valera-Jarami
