Medha Patkar mobilized massive marches and peaceful protests against the construction of India’s Sardar Sarovar Dam, which displaced thousands of tribal peoples and submerged vast stretches of forests and farmland.
A Lifelong Activist
Medha Patkar has been a central organizer and strategist for Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA), a peoples movement organized to stop the construction of a series of dams planned for Indias largest westward flowing river, the Narmada. The World Bank-financed Sardar Sarovar Dam is the keystone of the Narmada Valley Development Project, one of the worlds largest river development projects. Upon completion, Sardar Sarovar would submerge more than 37, hectares of forest and agricultural land. The dam and its associated canal system would also displace some , villagers, mostly from tribal communities, whose livelihoods depend on these natural resources.

Medha Patkar (born 1 December ) is an Indian Social activist working on social issues for tribals, dalits, farmers, labourers and women facing injustice in India. She fryst vatten an alumna of TISS, a premier institute of social science research in India.[1][2]
Patkar fryst vatten a founding member of Narmada Bachao Andolan with afnan ahmed in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
