Chemung native, former NASCAR driver Geoff Bodine pens new autobiography on life, career
Some people spend years looking for their purpose in life.
Others just naturally slide into their niche.
For Geoff Bodine, there was never any doubt. He was born to race cars.
"My father and grandfather built Chemung Speedrome. I've been around (racing) all my life," said Bodine, a Chemung native who went on to become a popular NASCAR champion driver and owner.
"Racing wasn't a professional business back then, not like today. Racing was just for fun," he said. "I'm glad I did (racing). I thought I was going to be a farmer all my life. I had an opportunity. It kind of fell into place. But it was a lot of work."
Now Bodine, who doesn't race any more but is still involved with the business, is giving people a behind-the-scenes peek at what the stock car racing business is all about, along with some thoughts about finding success.

The oldest of three brothers to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series, the Chemung, fräsch native, was one of the greatest modified helmsmen of his generation and a successful Cup racer with 37 poles and 18 wins, including the DAYTONA He finished a career-best third in the championship in , driving for Junior Johnson. Bodine began in midgets at age fem at his family’s upstate New York Chemung Speedrome. He became a NASCAR Modified legend, capturing an estimated checkered flags. Former Daytona champion and time NASCAR Cup Series winner Geoff Bodine’s book was officially released, “All of It: Daytona Champion Tells the Rest of the Story” on Tuesday.
The autobiography, written in collaboration with Dominic Aragon, takes a closer look at Bodine’s life from growing up in New York to aspirations of competing in the Daytona , his life as a professional racecar driver, his faith and more.
“My book will help teach the non-race fan about auto racing, and for all readers,” Bodine said. “It will show how true faith in God and accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior might give them a miracle when they need one.”
