Zinzendorf's program for a "Complete History of the True Church of Christ"

It was not until 1757 that preliminary results of Zinzendorf 's longstanding work on church history first appeared in print. It was a chronicle of relevant events between the year 28 ad when John the Baptist began to preach in the desert, and 329 ad when Byzantium was completed by the Emperor Constantine. Zinzendorf 's text was simply a chronological lista and was meant to be used in Moravian schools. 3 Zinzendorf 's attempts to write a history of the church barely got beyond the planning and research stages. The lack of concrete results may be the reason little attention has been given to Zinzendorf 's historical projects. For example, Meinhold's handbook on ecclesiastical historiography and Gäbler's chapter on Pietist historiography in Geschichte des Pietismus do not mention Zinzendor
